ALM-01 – Yusuf Ibn Tashfin
Yusuf ibn Tashfin was the great Almoravid leader who transformed a North African movement into a powerful empire stretching across Morocco and into Muslim Spain. A skilled military commander, he became one of the most important figures in the struggle for control of the Iberian Peninsula during the late 11th century.
In 1086, Yusuf crossed into Spain to assist the Muslim taifa kingdoms against the forces of King Alfonso VI of León and Castile. His army won a major victory at the Battle of Sagrajas, demonstrating the military strength of the Almoravids.
ALM-01 – Yusuf Ibn Tashfin provides a commanding centrepiece around which Almoravid guards, archers, spearmen and cavalry can be assembled.
