Trench warfare encouraged both sides to devise ways of projecting explosives into enemy positions while remaining under cover.

GLT-08 – Turkish Engineers with Grenade Catapult represents one of the more unusual weapons associated with this form of fighting.

A grenade catapult allowed explosive projectiles to be thrown farther than a soldier could reliably achieve by hand, making it useful where opposing trench lines were separated by relatively short distances.

The engineers operating such equipment add a completely different activity to an Ottoman position. Rather than another rifleman, GLT-08 introduces specialist troops and a piece of trench technology directly connected with the unusual conditions of the Gallipoli battlefield.
