GWB-02 – British Medium Mark A Whippet Tank
The Medium Mark A Whippet was one of the most distinctive British armoured vehicles of the First World War.
Unlike the large rhomboid-shaped British heavy tanks, the Whippet was designed as a faster, more mobile vehicle capable of exploiting breakthroughs and operating beyond the slower heavy tanks. It entered service during the later stages of the war and saw important action in 1918.
GWB-02 recreates this unusual machine in miniature. Its compact hull, rear fighting compartment and characteristic track arrangement give it an appearance immediately different from the Mark IV and Mark V heavy tanks more commonly associated with British armour.
Whippets were armed with machine guns rather than a heavy cannon, reflecting their intended role as mobile battlefield vehicles rather than trench-breaking heavy tanks.
Position GWB-02 moving across open ground, passing infantry or emerging beyond a captured trench line. It makes a superb centrepiece for a late-war British battlefield.
Available through The Military Workshop – an impressive John Jenkins Designs Medium Mark A Whippet representing Britain's increasingly mobile approach to armoured warfare during the final year of the Great War.
