GWB-17 – Supply Wagon and Horses
Despite the rapid development of trucks and other motor vehicles, horsepower remained absolutely essential to the armies of the First World War.
Millions of horses and mules were employed by the combatant nations to move ammunition, food, equipment and artillery. Roads could become congested or damaged, while motor vehicles were still mechanically demanding and dependent upon fuel supplies.
GWB-17 – Supply Wagon and Horses represents this enormous logistical effort behind the fighting troops.
The set is particularly effective on a road leading towards the front, where it can be combined with trucks to illustrate the mixture of animal and mechanical transport characteristic of the period.
Add a driver, unloading parties and stacked supplies at the destination and the wagon becomes part of a complete resupply scene rather than merely a piece of transport.
Available from The Military Workshop – an impressive John Jenkins Designs horse-drawn supply wagon representing the logistical network that kept the armies of the Western Front functioning.
