GWF-36 – Wounded Trooper

The sight of wounded men returning from the front became tragically familiar during the First World War.

GWF-36 – Wounded Trooper focuses on the individual soldier rather than the enormous casualty statistics that dominate accounts of the conflict.

A lone wounded figure can be particularly effective in a diorama because he does not need an elaborate scene around him. Place him moving towards the rear while fresh troops walk in the opposite direction and the contrast tells a powerful story by itself.

He can also be positioned near medical personnel or incorporated into the larger collection of French wounded figures, creating a casualty station behind the front.

Details such as these help portray the Western Front as a continuous environment where men were simultaneously arriving, fighting, being wounded and returning from battle.

Available through The Military Workshop – a characterful and sombre John Jenkins Designs wounded French trooper adding a personal human dimension to a Great War display.
