M-WIN-23 – Highlander Loading Musket
The battlefield effectiveness of an infantryman depended not simply upon firing his musket, but upon being able to reload it repeatedly while surrounded by noise, smoke and danger.
M-WIN-23 – Highlander Loading Musket captures that essential but often underrepresented part of 18th and early 19th-century infantry combat.
Loading a muzzle-loading musket required a practiced sequence of movements performed while remaining within the formation. Training sought to make those actions familiar enough that soldiers could continue functioning under battlefield pressure.
This loading pose is particularly valuable when mixed with firing and advancing figures. Instead of every Highlander performing the same action at exactly the same moment, the line begins to suggest the continuing cycle of loading, presenting and firing.
It can also be positioned slightly behind a kneeling or firing rank, adding depth to the formation without needing another dramatic combat pose.
Against Maratha cavalry, infantry or Arab mercenaries, the Highlander helps build a scene in which both sides possess distinct weapons and battlefield methods.
Available through The Military Workshop – a highly useful John Jenkins Designs Highlander in the act of loading his musket, adding realism and another stage of infantry action to a campaign in India.
