M-WIN-33 – Highlander Loading Musket
M-WIN-33 – Highlander Loading Musket captures one of the essential actions behind sustained infantry fire.
A muzzle-loading musket could not simply be fired repeatedly. The soldier had to carry out a practiced sequence of loading actions before the weapon could again be presented towards the enemy. Performing those movements under battlefield conditions required discipline and repetition.
This makes the loading pose especially useful in a diorama. Combine it with a firing Highlander and the two figures immediately suggest a continuing exchange rather than a single frozen volley.
The Highland regiments that served in India became part of a much larger British and East India Company military establishment operating in an environment far removed from Scotland. Campaigning involved long marches, intense heat, difficult logistics and opponents with sophisticated military forces of their own.
Position M-WIN-33 within a second rank or slightly behind firing troops and the figure adds a particularly natural layer of battlefield activity.
Available from The Military Workshop – a highly useful John Jenkins Designs Highlander whose loading pose adds realism and continuity to an infantry firefight in India.
