MAC-03C – Three Phalangites with White Shields
The strength of MAC-03C lies not in an extravagant individual pose but in what happens when its three white-shield Phalangites become part of a larger formation.
The Macedonian phalanx depended upon order. Sarissas of such extraordinary length would have been difficult to use effectively without training and coordination among the men carrying them.
Once organised, however, the result was formidable. An enemy approaching the front of the formation could face the spear points of several ranks before reaching the men themselves.
The white shields give collectors the option of creating a unified body of troops when combined with MAC-02C and the larger white-shield sets.
For the strongest display, build backwards as well as sideways. A phalanx only one figure deep loses much of the visual impact that made this military system so distinctive.
