Sir Thomas Howard belonged to one of the most important noble families of late-medieval England. He fought during the turbulent period that followed the Wars of the Roses and became closely associated with the early Tudor monarchy.

Howard is particularly remembered for his role at the Battle of Flodden in 1513, where the English army defeated the invading Scots and King James IV of Scotland was killed. He later became the 2nd Duke of Norfolk.
