The Dowager Empress Cixi (1835–1908) rose from the rank of imperial concubine to become the dominant political figure of the Qing Dynasty, effectively ruling China for nearly five decades as regent for successive young emperors. During her leadership, the empire faced enormous challenges, including internal rebellions, rapid foreign intervention, and increasing pressure to modernise. While her legacy remains the subject of historical debate, Cixi is widely recognised as one of the most influential figures in late imperial China.
Dressed in magnificent Qing imperial robes and adorned with the elaborate phoenix headdress reserved for the highest-ranking women of the Imperial Court, IC075 – The Dowager Empress Cixi captures the dignity, authority, and splendour of China's final imperial dynasty. Whether displayed as a standalone centrepiece or alongside IC076 – The Empress' Ladies-in-Waiting, IC077 – Presenting A Petition, and SP133 – The Imperial Display Board, this figure creates a striking representation of the grandeur and ceremony of the Forbidden City.
