FFL086 – Rif Warrior Standing Firing Upwards | Thomas Gunn
During the early decades of the 20th century, the mountainous Rif region of northern Morocco became the centre of fierce resistance against European colonial expansion.
The Rif War (1921–1926) saw local Berber forces, led by Abd el-Krim, confront Spanish and later French military forces in a prolonged conflict.
The difficult mountainous terrain provided an important advantage to Rif fighters, who used their familiarity with the landscape to resist better-equipped colonial armies.
Engagements frequently took place around isolated settlements, rocky hillsides and fortified positions, where the ability to fire upon opponents occupying higher ground was particularly important.
FFL086 – Rif Warrior Standing Firing Upwards by Thomas Gunn depicts a Rif fighter standing with his rifle raised, aiming towards an enemy positioned above him.
The figure captures the intensity of a battlefield engagement in the rugged terrain of North Africa and is designed to complement the Thomas Gunn French Foreign Legion range.
This miniature is particularly suitable for dioramas featuring elevated defensive positions, fortified buildings and skirmishes between French Legionnaires and Rif fighters.
