GMP-22TD – Taira Retainers | John Jenkins Designs
The Gempei War was fought between the rival Taira and Minamoto clans from 1180 to 1185, ultimately ending with the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate.
The conflict brought the samurai warrior class into an increasingly important position within Japanese political and military life.
John Jenkins Designs describes how elite samurai were accompanied by groups of retainers who wore simpler protective equipment.
These soldiers often used do-maru armour, a form of protection made from treated leather and silk lacing.
GMP-22TD – Taira Retainers by John Jenkins Designs is a two-figure set representing warriors serving the Taira Clan.
The set features two retainers wearing black armour and helmets, with contrasting clothing colours, carrying naginata polearms held forward.
The figures correspond to the individual GMP-22TA and GMP-22TB variations.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection, this set complements other Taira Clan soldiers and mounted samurai.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
