GMP-21TN – Taira Retainers | John Jenkins Designs
The Gempei War (1180–1185) was fought between the powerful Taira and Minamoto families during Japan's late Heian period.
The Taira, or Heike, maintained close ties with the imperial court, while the Minamoto were associated with a more provincial military tradition.
The conflict ended with the defeat of the Taira and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate under Minamoto no Yoritomo.
According to John Jenkins Designs, the military forces of the period included samurai warriors accompanied by groups of lighter-armoured retainers.
These soldiers frequently wore do-maru armour, constructed using treated leather and silk lacing.
GMP-21TN – Taira Retainers by John Jenkins Designs is a four-figure set representing warriors serving the Taira Clan.
The set includes two figures in green tunics with purple armour and two in light blue tunics with red armour.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection, this set provides collectors with a larger formation of Taira Clan retainers.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
