AMCT-05A - Continental Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

This two-figure set represents Continental Infantry serving in the American Revolutionary War, depicting soldiers of the Continental Army following the introduction of the uniform regulations of 1779.

The Continental Army was established by the Continental Congress in June 1775, with George Washington appointed Commander-in-Chief.

During the early years of the war, the army experienced considerable difficulties establishing consistent supplies of uniforms, weapons and equipment.

As the army developed into a more professional fighting force, Washington and his officers sought to introduce greater uniformity across the regiments.

The regulations adopted in 1779 established different facing colours for the regiments according to their regions.

New England soldiers were generally allocated dark blue coats with white facings, while New York and New Jersey regiments were assigned buff facings.

Other regiments, including those from Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware, were authorised to wear dark blue coats with red facings.

This two-figure set provides an excellent addition to a Continental Army formation, particularly when displayed alongside the other infantry variations representing the army of 1779.
