GGZ-19N2 - 6 uThulwana Warriors | John Jenkins Designs
This six-figure set represents warriors of the uThulwana Regiment during the Anglo-Zulu War and the Battle of Gingindhlovu on 2 April 1879.
The figures depict members of one of the Zulu kingdom's established military regiments, which formed an important part of King Cetshwayo's army.
The uThulwana Regiment was formed in 1854 and became known by names translated as "Dust Raisers" or "Cover with Dust".
With approximately 3,000 warriors, it was one of the larger Zulu regiments and was associated with distinctive white shields.
The regiment's ceremonial dress incorporated various feathers and animal-skin ornaments, reflecting the traditions and military identity of its members.
The uThulwana participated in major engagements throughout the Anglo-Zulu War, including Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Gingindhlovu and Ulundi.
At Gingindhlovu, the Zulu army attempted to overwhelm Lord Chelmsford's entrenched relief column, advancing in the traditional "horns of the buffalo" formation.
This six-figure set is particularly suitable for collectors wishing to build a substantial uThulwana formation or recreate the Zulu attacks during the Battle of Gingindhlovu.
