GGZ-19 - uThulwana Warriors | John Jenkins Designs

This two-piece set represents Zulu Warriors of the uThulwana Regiment during the Battle of Gingindhlovu on 2 April 1879.

The figures belong to the Anglo-Zulu War collection and depict members of one of the established regiments of King Cetshwayo's Zulu army.

The uThulwana Regiment was formed in 1854 and was also known as the "Dust Raisers" or "Cover with Dust".

It was one of the larger Zulu regiments, with a strength of approximately 3,000 warriors, and played an important role in the military organisation of the Zulu kingdom.

The regiment was particularly associated with white shields and distinctive ceremonial headwear incorporating feathers, fur and other traditional adornments.

During the Anglo-Zulu War, uThulwana warriors participated in several major engagements, including Isandlwana, Rorke's Drift, Gingindhlovu and Ulundi.

At Gingindhlovu, Zulu forces attacked Lord Chelmsford's entrenched relief column, employing the traditional "horns of the buffalo" formation.

This set provides an excellent addition to a uThulwana infantry formation and complements the other Zulu regiments represented in the collection.
