The 11th New York Volunteer Infantry ("First Fire Zouaves") used a unique, two-sided white silk regimental color presented by the New York City Fire Department to Col. Elmer Ellsworth on April 29, 1861. Measuring approximately 65" x 76 1/2", it featured firefighting equipment, unit identification, and the slogan "The Star Spangled Banner in triumph shall wave".
