ALM-02 – Almoravid with Flag | John Jenkins Designs
The Almoravids, also known as the Murabits, were an important military and religious movement that emerged in North Africa during the 11th century.
Founded by Ibn Yasin in southern Morocco, the movement combined religious devotion with military expansion, eventually establishing control over extensive territories in North Africa and parts of the Iberian Peninsula.
In 1070, the Almoravids established their capital at Marrakesh, which became the centre of their growing power.
Under the leadership of Yusuf Ibn Tashfin, the Almoravids crossed into Spain and defeated the Christian forces at the Battle of Zalaca in October 1086.
These campaigns brought the Almoravids into conflict with the Christian kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula during the period associated with the famous Spanish military leader El Cid.
ALM-02 – Almoravid with Flag by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted Almoravid flag bearer, representing the military forces of this powerful North African movement.
The prominent flag creates a distinctive command figure suitable for displaying alongside Almoravid cavalry, infantry and their leaders.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs The Crusades – El Cid and the Reconquista collection, this figure provides an impressive addition to an Almoravid military formation.
