AP-24AN – Kardake Light Infantry | John Jenkins Designs

The Achaemenid Persian Empire controlled an extensive territory during the 6th to 4th centuries BC, maintaining a large military organisation capable of bringing together soldiers from many different regions.

The Kardakes formed part of the Persian military during the empire's later period, although their exact origins and battlefield responsibilities remain uncertain.

Ancient historians described these soldiers in several different ways, including as hoplites and peltasts.

John Jenkins Designs notes that Kardake light infantry were associated with weapons such as javelins, the kopis sword and the sagaris battle axe.

The sagaris was a bronze, pick-like weapon, while wicker shields provided protection without the weight associated with heavier infantry equipment.

AP-24AN – Kardake Light Infantry by John Jenkins Designs features three Persian warriors wearing blue tunics with green sleeves and carrying distinctive red crescent-shaped shields.

Each figure is armed with a sagaris battle axe, held raised in preparation for close combat.

This three-figure set complements the other Kardake light infantry variations, allowing collectors to create a larger formation of advancing Persian warriors.
