GMP-21TA – Taira Retainer | John Jenkins Designs

The Taira Clan, also known as the Heike, was one of the two principal factions involved in the Gempei War of 1180–1185.

The Taira maintained close associations with the imperial court and were recognised for their accomplishments in both military and cultural pursuits.

Their rivalry with the Minamoto Clan eventually developed into a civil war that would transform the political structure of medieval Japan.

According to John Jenkins Designs, samurai warriors were generally accompanied by small groups of retainers who wore simpler forms of armour.

These soldiers often used do-maru protection, made from treated leather and silk lacing.

GMP-21TA – Taira Retainer by John Jenkins Designs depicts a warrior serving the Taira Clan.

The figure features a green tunic and purple armour, providing a distinctive addition to the manufacturer's collection of Taira warriors.

Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection.
