MGMP-01C – Warrior Monk | John Jenkins Designs
The warrior monks of medieval Japan were an important military presence during the Gempei War, which brought the rival Taira and Minamoto clans into conflict.
Known as Sohei, these monks were associated with religious institutions that maintained their own armed forces.
John Jenkins Designs explains that the monks were not permanently aligned with one faction, sometimes fighting for the Minamoto and at other times supporting the Taira.
Their favourite weapon appears to have been the naginata, while basic armour was often worn beneath traditional religious robes.
MGMP-01C – Warrior Monk depicts a Japanese warrior monk wearing black robes and carrying a naginata.
The black-robed variation provides an alternative appearance to the red and yellow versions of this figure.
An excellent addition to a collection representing the Sohei who participated in the Gempei War.
