MGMP-02B – Warrior Monk | John Jenkins Designs
During the late Heian period, Japan experienced a prolonged civil war between the powerful Taira and Minamoto families.
The conflict, known as the Gempei War (1180–1185), involved not only samurai warriors and their retainers but also the armed monks of several Buddhist religious institutions.
John Jenkins Designs describes how the Sohei formed an additional military force, with individual monasteries supporting different sides throughout the fighting.
These warrior monks commonly combined their religious clothing with protective armour and traditional Japanese weapons.
MGMP-02B – Warrior Monk depicts a Japanese warrior monk wearing white robes with blue armour and carrying a katana.
This figure provides an alternative colour variation to MGMP-02A, which features red armour.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection, the figure complements the other armoured warrior monks and samurai soldiers from this period.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
