MGMP-03C – Warrior Monk with Yumi | John Jenkins Designs
During the Gempei War (1180–1185), the rival Taira and Minamoto clans fought for political control of Japan.
The conflict involved samurai warriors, their retainers and the armed monks associated with powerful Buddhist monasteries.
The Sohei, or warrior monks, sometimes supported the Minamoto and at other times fought for the Taira.
John Jenkins Designs describes the significance of the yumi, the Japanese longbow, during this period of medieval warfare.
Although particularly associated with elite samurai archers, the bow also appears among the weapons represented in the manufacturer's warrior monk collection.
MGMP-03C – Warrior Monk with Yumi depicts a Japanese warrior monk equipped with a yumi bow.
The figure complements the other bow-armed monks, as well as the sword and naginata variations within the Gempei War range.
