NKE-19N – Nubian Mercenaries | John Jenkins Designs
The Nubians played an important role in the armies of Ancient Egypt, particularly as highly skilled archers, scouts and light infantrymen.
Located to the south of Egypt, Nubia included several regions and peoples whose warriors served in Egyptian military formations over many centuries.
According to the historical information provided by John Jenkins Designs, Nubian soldiers were an important part of the Egyptian army from as early as the Old Kingdom.
Among the most highly regarded were the Medja, who were particularly valued for their abilities as scouts and skirmishers. They were known for wearing leopard or lion-skin kilts and ostrich feathers in their hair.
Nubian archers contributed significantly to the effectiveness of Egyptian infantry formations, providing vital missile support during military engagements.
NKE-19N – Nubian Mercenaries by John Jenkins Designs features two Nubian archers preparing to fire their bows, captured in ready-to-shoot positions.
The set is part of the New Kingdom Egyptians – Battle of Kadesh, 1274 BC collection.
These figures can also be incorporated into the manufacturer's Trojan War range, representing warriors associated with King Memnon's Ethiopian army.
