ROMCAV-10A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry, Red Shield | John Jenkins Designs
The armies of ancient Rome were famous for the strength and discipline of their legionaries, but mounted troops were equally important to the success of military campaigns across the Empire.
Roman auxiliary cavalrymen were recruited from provincial populations and provided specialist riding and fighting skills. Their mobility made them particularly useful for reconnaissance, protecting supply columns and responding rapidly to threats along the frontiers.
The cavalry also played an important role during major battles, screening infantry formations, attacking exposed flanks and pursuing enemy forces attempting to retreat.
Auxiliary cavalrymen commonly wore mail armour and were armed with spears, javelins and the spatha long sword. They carried lightweight shields designed to provide protection without restricting movement while mounted.
ROMCAV-10A – Roman Auxiliary Cavalry by John Jenkins Designs depicts a mounted auxiliary soldier carrying a red shield.
This figure forms part of the Roman Auxiliary Cavalry series and is ideal for creating mounted patrols, cavalry formations or dramatic battlefield scenes from the Roman period.
