ALB-03G - East Kent "The Buffs" Drummer | John Jenkins Designs

This figure represents a drummer of the 1/3rd Regiment of Foot, the East Kent Regiment known as "The Buffs", during the Battle of Albuera on 16 May 1811.

The figure belongs to the "A Storm of Lancers" collection, depicting one of the most devastating episodes of the Peninsular War.

The Buffs had been serving in the Peninsula since September 1808, participating in major engagements including the crossing at Oporto in May 1809 and the Battle of Talavera.

At Albuera, the regiment formed part of Colborne's Brigade when a sudden storm of heavy rain and hail swept across the battlefield.

With their muskets rendered largely ineffective and visibility severely reduced, the British infantry were struck by a powerful attack from Polish Lancers and French Hussars.

The Buffs suffered extraordinary losses, with 643 casualties from approximately 755 officers and men.

Despite this devastation, the regiment was quickly rebuilt, earning the additional nickname "The Resurrectionists".

This individual drummer represents position #12 on the manufacturer's Albuera display base, providing an important regimental figure for recreating the battle.
