ALB-05M – French Lancer | John Jenkins Designs

The dramatic cavalry attack at Albuera included the 1st Chevau-Légers Lanciers of the Vistula Legion, Polish cavalry serving Napoleon’s French Empire.

ALB-05M – French Lancer represents one of these formidable mounted soldiers during the action of 16 May 1811.

The lancer’s principal weapon gave him an extraordinary reach from horseback. Against infantry caught outside a defensive square, a long lance could reach beyond the effective range of a bayonet, making the mounted soldier exceptionally dangerous once he had penetrated the formation.

At Albuera, the Vistula Legion struck Colborne’s brigade during a violent rainstorm that had reduced visibility and disrupted British musket fire. The resulting attack inflicted devastating losses before the cavalry eventually withdrew.

ALB-05M is particularly effective when combined with ALB-05G and the French hussars, building the mass and momentum needed for a convincing mounted assault.

Now available from The Military Workshop – a dramatic John Jenkins Designs Vistula Legion lancer from one of the Peninsular War’s most devastating cavalry attacks.
