ALB-06M – French Hussar | John Jenkins Designs
Among the cavalry that appeared through the driving rain at Albuera were troopers of the French 2nd Hussars, operating alongside the Polish lancers of the Vistula Legion.
ALB-06M – French Hussar represents one of these light cavalrymen during the devastating mounted attack on Colborne’s brigade.
The circumstances could hardly have been worse for the British infantry. Heavy rain had reduced visibility and interfered with the operation of their flintlock muskets, while their line formation left them dangerously exposed to cavalry approaching from the flank and rear.
Hussars were traditionally employed for reconnaissance, screening, pursuit and other mobile duties, but at Albuera the 2nd Hussars became involved in one of the Peninsular War’s most memorable close cavalry actions.
Combined with ALB-06G and the Vistula Legion lancers, ALB-06M helps create the speed and confusion of cavalry breaking into an infantry formation.
