ALB-09G - French Lancer | John Jenkins Designs
This French Lancer represents a soldier of the 1er Chevau-Légers Lanciers de la Légion de la Vistule during the Battle of Albuera on 16 May 1811.
The figure belongs to the "A Storm of Lancers" collection, depicting the devastating cavalry attack against British infantry during one of the fiercest engagements of the Peninsular War.
The battle was fought between Allied forces commanded by General Sir William Beresford and a French army under Marshal Soult.
During the engagement, heavy rain and hail swept across the battlefield, making it extremely difficult for British infantrymen to reload their muskets or see approaching enemy troops.
Taking advantage of these conditions, Polish lancers and French hussars launched a powerful attack against the exposed flank and rear of Colborne's British Brigade.
The leading lancers were equipped with nine-foot weapons, giving them a significant advantage against infantry caught in line formation.
This mounted figure represents position #20 on the manufacturer's Albuera display base and provides a striking addition to the French cavalry forces of the period.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
