AP-37YB – Persian Kardake Infantry (4-Piece Set)
Expand the ranks of the Achaemenid Persian Empire with AP-37YB – Persian Kardake Infantry, a beautifully hand-painted four-piece set from the Armies and Enemies of Greece and Macedonia collection, available from The Military Workshop.
The Kardakes remain one of the most debated troop types of the ancient Persian Army. Classical historians variously described them as hoplites, slingers, and peltasts, suggesting they were not a single class of soldier but rather a corps capable of fulfilling a variety of battlefield roles. This flexibility would have allowed the Persian Army to adapt to different enemies and combat situations across its vast empire.
The differing accounts of the Battle of Issus (333 BC) illustrate this uncertainty. The historian Arrian referred to the Kardakes as hoplites, while Kallisthenes described them as peltasts, indicating that their equipment and tactics may have varied between units or campaigns.
Expertly sculpted and richly hand-painted, this four-figure set captures the distinctive appearance of these versatile Persian warriors. Whether reinforcing an existing Achaemenid army or recreating the epic battles against Alexander the Great, AP-37YB is a superb addition to any ancient military collection.
