At its height, the Achaemenid Persian Empire stretched across an extraordinary area from the eastern Mediterranean towards the Indus Valley, drawing troops from many different peoples and military traditions.

AP-39L – Kardake Infantry represents one of the more mysterious elements associated with its later armies.

Ancient accounts provide differing descriptions of the Kardakes, and historians continue to debate whether they were a specific infantry type, a military class or troops influenced by Greek methods of warfare.

This uncertainty makes the Kardakes particularly interesting subjects for collectors. AP-39L can be combined with the other Kardake releases to form a larger infantry contingent confronting Macedonian and Greek troops.
