BAL-16 - Limber | John Jenkins Designs

This British Artillery Limber represents an important piece of equipment used to transport field artillery during the 18th century.

Artillery limbers were specially designed two-wheeled vehicles used to support and move cannon and other artillery equipment. When attached to the trail of a gun carriage, the limber allowed the artillery piece to be transported by horses or other draught animals, transforming it into a four-wheeled arrangement suitable for movement.

The movement of artillery was an essential consideration during military campaigns, as commanders needed to transport cannon between positions and bring them into action when required.

The limber illustrates the practical equipment required to support an artillery battery beyond the cannon and its crew. It also provides an opportunity to represent the transport and logistical side of 18th-century warfare.

An excellent addition to a British artillery collection, particularly when displayed alongside field guns, horses, artillery crews and supporting equipment to create a more complete military scene.
