BEECH-05 - Forsyth's Scouts | John Jenkins Designs

This Forsyth's Scouts set represents members of the American scouting force involved in the Battle of Beecher's Island in September 1868.

The figures form part of the Thunder on the Plains collection, depicting a dramatic engagement between a small group of United States Army scouts and a much larger force of Plains Indian warriors.

In August 1868, Major George Forsyth received orders to recruit fifty experienced frontiersmen for reconnaissance operations.

The scouts included veterans of the American Civil War and were primarily equipped with Spencer repeating carbines and Colt revolvers.

On 17 September, the force was attacked near the Arikaree River in present-day Colorado.

The scouts withdrew to a sandbar, where they established defensive positions and resisted repeated attacks while heavily outnumbered.

Their ordeal continued for several days, with food supplies becoming so scarce that the survivors resorted to eating horse meat.

Reinforcements eventually arrived from Fort Wallace, bringing the engagement to an end.

This release is an excellent addition to the Battle of Beecher's Island collection, particularly when displayed alongside other Forsyth's Scouts and Cheyenne warriors.
