BEECH-05B - Extra Horse | John Jenkins Designs
This Extra Horse is designed to complement the Forsyth's Scouts figures representing the Battle of Beecher's Island in September 1868.
The model forms part of the Thunder on the Plains collection and provides an additional animal for recreating the battlefield setting.
The Battle of Beecher's Island began on 17 September 1868 when a scouting force of approximately fifty men under Major George Forsyth was attacked near the Arikaree River in present-day Colorado.
Facing a much larger force of Plains Indian warriors, the scouts withdrew to a sandbar and established a defensive position.
The men used their horses as part of the perimeter while digging rifle pits to protect themselves from repeated attacks.
The prolonged engagement placed the scouts under considerable strain, with casualties, shortages of supplies and the loss of horses contributing to their difficulties.
This additional horse provides an important detail for collectors recreating the defensive position and the wider battlefield.
It is particularly suitable for display alongside BEECH-05 and the other Forsyth's Scouts figures.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
