CQART-02 - Artillery Crew | John Jenkins Designs

This Spanish Artillery Crew represents the soldiers responsible for operating the artillery employed by the Conquistadors during the Spanish conquest of the Americas in the early 16th century.

The set is designed to complement the Spanish Lombard, an early artillery weapon represented separately in the collection.

The Conquistadors brought European military traditions and weapons to the New World, including firearms, crossbows, swords, pikes and artillery. These weapons formed part of the military methods that had developed during the Spanish Reconquista and subsequent European campaigns.

The Spanish armies relied on cooperation between different types of soldiers, with missile troops and artillery supporting infantry armed for close combat.

Artillery added another dimension to the expeditionary forces, providing the ability to attack enemy positions and support military operations against fortified settlements.

The conquest of Mexico under Hernán Cortés demonstrated the importance of combining European weapons and military organisation with the substantial support provided by indigenous allies.

This artillery crew provides an excellent addition to displays depicting the Spanish Conquistadors, particularly when combined with the Spanish Lombard, arquebusiers, crossbowmen and infantry figures.
