CSBS-06A – Confederate Standard Bearer (3-Piece Set)
Commemorate one of the most significant cavalry engagements of the American Civil War with CSBS-06A – Confederate Standard Bearer, a beautifully hand-painted three-piece set from The Battle of Brandy Station collection, available from The Military Workshop.
Fought on 9 June 1863, the Battle of Brandy Station was the largest cavalry battle ever fought on American soil. Taking place in Virginia, it saw the Union Cavalry Corps launch a surprise attack against the mounted forces of General J.E.B. Stuart's celebrated Army of Northern Virginia. Although the Confederates ultimately held the field, the battle demonstrated the growing confidence and effectiveness of Union cavalry and marked a turning point in the mounted operations of the Civil War.
At the heart of every Confederate cavalry regiment stood its standard bearer. Entrusted with carrying the regimental colours into battle, these soldiers provided a vital rallying point amid the confusion of combat. The colours identified friendly units, conveyed a sense of pride and unity, and inspired soldiers to continue the fight under the most dangerous conditions. As a result, standard bearers were often among the most exposed men on the battlefield and were frequently targeted by enemy fire.
Expertly sculpted and richly hand-painted, this three-piece set captures the courage and determination of the Confederate cavalry during one of the Civil War's most famous mounted engagements. It is an ideal centrepiece for any Brandy Station or Army of Northern Virginia display.
