CTIB-20A - Iberian Scutarii | John Jenkins Designs

This set represents Iberian Scutarii Warriors serving within the armies of Carthage during the ancient conflicts against Rome.

The figures belong to the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection and depict warriors from the Iberian Peninsula, whose military skills made them valuable soldiers in Carthaginian armies.

Iberian infantry were broadly divided into two categories, the Scutarii and Caetratii, distinguished primarily by their shields.

The Scutarii carried the scutum, a large, flat oval shield featuring a wooden spine and metal boss. These substantial shields provided protection while allowing the warriors to participate in infantry formations.

Iberian mercenaries had served in armies throughout Europe since the fifth century BC and developed a reputation for their fighting ability and determination.

Hannibal made extensive use of Iberian soldiers during his campaigns against Rome in the Second Punic War, when Carthaginian armies combined troops from several different regions.

This set provides an excellent addition to a Carthaginian infantry formation, particularly when combined with other Scutarii warriors and supporting troops.
