CTIB-20AN - 4 Iberian Scutarii | John Jenkins Designs
This four-warrior set represents Iberian Scutarii infantry serving in the armies of Carthage during the conflicts against the Roman Republic.
The figures belong to the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection and provide an opportunity to assemble a larger formation of Iberian soldiers.
The Scutarii were distinguished by their large oval shields, known as scuta, which featured wooden spines and metal bosses.
Iberian warriors had a long tradition of military service, with mercenaries from the region participating in conflicts throughout Europe from the fifth century BC.
Their mobility, fighting ability and willingness to engage in fierce combat made them particularly valuable to the Carthaginian armies.
Hannibal employed Iberian troops extensively during the Second Punic War, incorporating them alongside soldiers from other territories under Carthaginian influence.
The Iberian forces also became known for their resistance to Roman expansion, with warriors continuing to fight against Roman control long after Carthage had been defeated.
This four-warrior set is particularly suitable for creating substantial Carthaginian infantry formations and recreating the varied armies of the ancient Mediterranean.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
