CTIB-20B - Iberian Scutarii | John Jenkins Designs

This set depicts Iberian Scutarii Warriors, representing the infantrymen who served within Carthaginian armies during the wars against Rome.

The figures form part of the Carthaginian collection and provide another variation of the distinctive Iberian troops employed during ancient Mediterranean warfare.

The Scutarii were named for the large shields they carried, known as scuta. These shields were generally oval in shape, with a wooden spine and metal boss.

The Iberian Peninsula provided Carthage with an important source of military manpower, contributing experienced warriors to its expanding armies.

Iberian soldiers had already developed a reputation as capable mercenaries and were employed in military campaigns throughout the Mediterranean.

During the Second Punic War, Hannibal made considerable use of Iberian infantry alongside his other troops in the campaign against Rome.

The Roman conquest of the Iberian Peninsula continued long after Carthage's defeat, with indigenous warriors resisting Roman expansion through determined and mobile warfare.

This set complements CTIB-20A and the larger Scutarii formations, allowing collectors to develop a varied Carthaginian infantry force.
