CTIB-20BN - 4 Iberian Scutarii | John Jenkins Designs
This four-warrior set depicts Iberian Scutarii infantry serving within the military forces of Carthage during the conflicts against the Roman Republic.
The figures provide an additional Scutarii formation, complementing the other Iberian infantry sets in the Armies and Enemies of Ancient Rome collection.
The Scutarii were distinguished by the large oval scutum shields they carried, which featured a wooden spine and metal boss.
Iberian warriors were highly regarded as mercenaries and had been employed by different military powers throughout the Mediterranean from the fifth century BC.
The Carthaginian general Hannibal made extensive use of Iberian troops during the Second Punic War, taking advantage of their fighting skills and mobility.
Following Carthage's defeat, Rome continued to encounter fierce resistance from the peoples of Hispania, particularly under leaders such as Viriathus, whose mobile tactics presented considerable difficulties to Roman armies.
These warriors provide an excellent addition to a larger Iberian or Carthaginian military display.
Combined with CTIB-20AN and the other Scutarii releases, the set allows collectors to construct more substantial infantry formations.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
