GGFF-01 – Frontier Light Horse | John Jenkins Designs

The Frontier Light Horse was raised in 1877 for service in the Ninth Cape Frontier War before going on to play an important role during the Anglo-Zulu War.

Serving with Wood’s Column, the unit endured severe losses during the fighting at Hlobane on 28 March 1879, where more than thirty of its men were lost and its commanding officer, Captain Robert Barton, was killed. The surviving Frontier Light Horse fought again at Khambula the following day and later participated in the advance into Zululand.

GGFF-01 represents these hardy colonial mounted troops, whose clothing and equipment could be much less uniform than that of British regular cavalry.

They make ideal additions to reconnaissance, patrol and mounted-action displays and sit particularly well alongside other colonial volunteers and irregulars.

Now available from The Military Workshop – a fascinating John Jenkins Designs representation of the Frontier Light Horse during the Anglo-Zulu War.
