GGFF-03 - Frontier Light Horse | John Jenkins Designs
This Frontier Light Horse release represents a member of the colonial mounted forces serving during the Anglo-Zulu War of 1879.
The figure belongs to the Volunteers, Irregulars and Auxiliaries collection and depicts one of the mounted soldiers who participated in British military operations in Zululand.
The Frontier Light Horse was raised in 1877 by Lieutenant F. Carrington for service during the Ninth Cape Frontier War.
Its recruits were drawn primarily from the King William's Town district of the Eastern Cape.
During the Anglo-Zulu War, the regiment served with Wood's Column under Captain Robert Johnston Barton.
The unit participated in the fighting at Hlobane on 28 March 1879, where it suffered heavy casualties, including the death of its commanding officer.
It subsequently fought at Khambula and was present during later operations culminating in the Battle of Ulundi.
The regiment's appearance varied considerably throughout the campaign, with uniforms incorporating black or yellow-brown cord material and distinctive red and black detailing.
This figure provides an excellent addition to a Frontier Light Horse formation and complements the other colonial mounted troops represented in the Anglo-Zulu War collection.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
