The Zulu army of 1879 is most closely associated with warriors carrying the traditional iklwa and hide shield, but firearms were also used during the Anglo-Zulu War.

GGZ-31N – Zulus with Muskets represents warriors of the inGobamakhosi Regiment during the Battle of Gingindlovu on 2 April 1879. This group is presented as a musket-armed skirmishing element, providing a very different battlefield role from the massed spear-armed warriors advancing towards the British position.

For a larger Zulu display, musket-equipped warriors add considerable variety. Positioned in looser order ahead of the main impi or using natural cover, they can represent men attempting to keep pressure on the defenders while other regiments move forward.
