GMP-22TB – Taira Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
During the Gempei War of 1180–1185, the Taira and Minamoto clans fought a prolonged struggle for control of Japan.
The conflict involved elite samurai warriors together with the retainers who supported them.
According to John Jenkins Designs, these retainers were usually more lightly armoured than their wealthy samurai leaders.
Their protective equipment often included do-maru armour, made from treated leather and silk lacing.
The Taira Clan, also known as the Heike, maintained close connections with the imperial court and was recognised for its military and cultural accomplishments.
GMP-22TB – Taira Retainer by John Jenkins Designs depicts a Japanese warrior wearing black armour and a helmet with light blue clothing.
The figure carries a naginata, representing one of the retainers serving the Taira military forces.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection, this variation complements GMP-22TA and the other Taira warriors.
Now available from The Military Workshop.
