GMP-24MA – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
The Minamoto Clan played a decisive role in the Gempei War, which took place between 1180 and 1185 during the late Heian period.
The conflict was fought against the powerful Taira family and ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate under Minamoto no Yoritomo.
According to John Jenkins Designs, the armies of the period included elite samurai warriors and the retainers who accompanied them.
These retainers were generally more lightly armoured than their wealthy samurai leaders and commonly wore do-maru protection.
Constructed using treated leather and silk lacing, this form of armour was relatively affordable and widely used during the earlier periods of Japanese military history.
GMP-24MA – Minamoto Retainer by John Jenkins Designs represents a warrior serving the Minamoto Clan.
The figure complements the other Minamoto retainers and samurai warriors from the manufacturer's Gempei War collection.
