GMP-25MB – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
The Gempei War of 1180–1185 was one of the most significant conflicts in medieval Japanese history, fought between the rival Minamoto and Taira clans.
The struggle eventually ended with the victory of the Minamoto, establishing the foundations of military government under the Kamakura shogunate.
According to John Jenkins Designs, the armies of this period included elite samurai warriors who were commonly accompanied by smaller groups of retainers.
The retainers often wore do-maru armour, a simpler form of protective equipment made from treated leather and silk lacing.
These soldiers formed an important part of the wider military forces serving the Japanese clans.
GMP-25MB – Minamoto Retainer by John Jenkins Designs depicts a warrior representing the Minamoto Clan.
This variation complements GMP-25MA and the other Minamoto retainers, allowing collectors to expand their historical Japanese displays.
Part of the John Jenkins Designs Gempei War collection.
