GMP-25MA – Minamoto Retainer | John Jenkins Designs
During the Gempei War, the Minamoto Clan fought a prolonged struggle against the rival Taira family for military and political control of Japan.
The conflict lasted from 1180 until 1185 and eventually resulted in the defeat of the Taira and the establishment of the Kamakura shogunate.
John Jenkins Designs describes how the samurai military elite was accompanied by groups of retainers who provided additional manpower to their armies.
These retainers often wore do-maru armour, which was simpler and less expensive than the elaborate armour associated with wealthier mounted samurai.
The equipment reflected the different positions occupied by warriors within the military structure of medieval Japan.
GMP-25MA – Minamoto Retainer by John Jenkins Designs represents a warrior serving the Minamoto Clan during the Gempei War.
The figure complements the other Minamoto retainers and samurai figures in the manufacturer's collection.
