INCA-05B - Inca Warrior | John Jenkins Designs

This Inca Warrior represents a member of the military forces that supported the expansion and defence of the Inca Empire during the late 15th and early 16th centuries.

The figure is depicted wearing a distinctive black-and-white checked skirt, with his spear raised in preparation to throw.

The Inca Empire developed one of the largest and most organised military systems in pre-Columbian America. Its elite military contingents included soldiers from the two traditional divisions of the capital, Hanan Cusco and Hurin Cusco.

These divisions were associated with the upper and lower sections of the capital and maintained a strong sense of rivalry and military competition.

Experienced warriors were known as Huaminca, or veterans, and underwent formal training from their teenage years. Their instruction included the use and manufacture of weapons, together with tests of courage, endurance and physical ability.

Successful warriors received recognition for their achievements, including distinctive insignia and the right to wear particular ornaments.

The armies of the Inca Empire employed a variety of weapons, including spears, slings, maces and shields, allowing them to undertake campaigns across the challenging terrain of the Andes.

This individual warrior makes an excellent addition to Inca military displays and complements the other spear-armed figures within the collection.
