INCA-14N - 4 Canari Warriors | John Jenkins Designs
This four-figure set depicts Canari Warriors armed with spears, representing one of the distinctive indigenous peoples associated with the armies of the Inca Empire.
The figures are shown thrusting their spears with both hands, creating a coordinated infantry formation suitable for recreating the military forces of the Andean region.
The Canari were organised into a loose confederation of independent tribes, each maintaining its own traditions and identity.
Their distinctive appearance was frequently recorded by Spanish observers. Canari warriors were noted for wearing their hair longer than the Incas, with a portion commonly knotted at the front of the head. Metal ornaments worn through the ears and nose gave rise to the name Quillacana, or metal noses.
Their principal weapon was the Llaca, a spear approximately six to seven feet in length. The spearheads could be manufactured from bronze, copper, stone or hardened wood, while the shafts were sometimes decorated with colourful feathers.
Spanish historical descriptions consistently identify Canari warriors as spearmen, making these figures an important representation of their military traditions.
This four-figure set is particularly suitable for collectors constructing larger Canari infantry formations or adding regional variety to an Inca Empire display.
