INCA-16A - Colla Bolas Warrior | John Jenkins Designs
This Colla Warrior represents a soldier from the Colla people, distinguished by his traditional clothing and the characteristic bolas weapon used by warriors of the Andean region.
The figure wears a tunic featuring broad vertical red-and-white stripes and carries a bolas, a specialised weapon associated with the Colla.
The Colla were recognised for their distinctive conical black woollen caps, known as Chukka, which commonly featured a crescent-shaped badge at the front.
Their traditional tunic, or Uncu, was frequently decorated with vertical stripes arranged into four panels.
The bolas consisted of several stone weights wrapped in rawhide and attached to cords. When thrown, the weighted cords could become entangled around an opponent or the legs of a horse, making the weapon particularly useful against mounted soldiers.
Historical accounts record the use of bolas against Spanish cavalry during the rebellion led by Manco Inca.
This individual warrior provides a distinctive addition to an Inca military collection, illustrating the variety of weapons and regional traditions represented among the indigenous forces of the Andes.
